Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Schipperke / Mixed (short coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Young : : Small
Fera is a small 8 or 9 mo old girl that was found in rural Ga in someones shed. We do not have a lot of info on her background. She was brought to the shelter where she promptly retreated into silence and depression. Fera was semi feral when brought into the shelter. She was rescue only and no one wanted her. We saw her face and took a chance. We have had her since May, and she has made great progress. She has never been aggressive, she shuts down and goes into a ball when she feels threatened. That behaviour is becoming less and less. Fera now comes to people for petting, does well on a leash, is learning to sit, has a down. Loves to snuggle with you for selected moments of time. This is a very agile, smart dog, that can leap 5 feet in the air, sail across a couch or two, and is fast as the wind. She is very attentive, looks you strait in the face. She shadows youwhen you walk in the house, but if you turn too sudddenly she will dance back and can be coaxed to approach with food. Fera still needs lots of special attention. She will always need the company of another stable dog for a role model. Now she needs to expand her horizens, and needs lots of exposure to the environment. Walks in the park, classes (she has been to several puppy classes and done well), petsmart, lots of people touches. She loves dogs, they are her safety net, and she is still learning to trust people. Fera is a project dog, and we will release only to someone that has experience with rehab dogs. She has been evaluated by a behaviourist, and is perfectly rehabitable. she will be an excellent and beyond performance dog. Loves to tug and play, but it is shadowed by her distrust of people hands. That can be overcome. She is still at risk for flight, which is what she would do if scared, so a trusty secure fence is a must. Throw in another dog or two, a patient, kind loving person that knows how to train and read a dog, and she will be a star! She will NOT get any bigger , max 25 pounds. We will consider a reliable knowledgeable foster who can take her under their wing and continue the work we have started.. Fera will be able to get in to classes with certain trainers for a minimal cost, which we will pay for. we will pay for any medical, heartworm and flea prevention. We are just looking for a great home where she can continue her adventures in life. If you are interested in fostering or adopting please contact us, we will be happy to expound on her!!
