About Emma

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Ear Type: Natural/Uncropped

Emma is a young lady approx. 9 mos. that came from a horrible kill shelter in MO. She was in boarding for a month recovering from kennel cough and waiting for transport to Florida. This is a very high energy dog, with a lot of drive. Loves people, follows me all about the house. Gets along well with other dogs, and plays heartily with them. She will play with toys, likes the ball, but she is possessive about her toys with other dogs. She seems to be a bit territorial about food also, but we are working on that and if sitting in a group will take a treat right along with the others without issues. She wolfs down her food in less than a minute, Im thinking that was fostered in the shelter/boarding situation and will hopefully slow down when she realizes she has steady meals. This girl will need a job or an active family, and is a perfect candidate for performance sports, hiking, and swimming, yes she loves the water! I have already taught her to sit, and she lifts her front paw when she does so we are teaching her to shake:)) VERY smart girl wide open to training. She readily goes in her crate when she first goes in, she quiets quickly and settles. She loves the freedom of not being in a kennel, but needs to learn that there are boundaries she must live with. This is a very special girl, with a lot of love to give, if you are looking for a sports dog, Emma may be just for you!!! Fully vetted, spayed and very healthy!!! update 8/3/11 Emma possesiveness re toys and food is dissapating!! She is a very obedient girl and is in obedience and agility classes. She is extremely smart and you really only need to show her once and it seems like she has been doing it all her life. will be very good in agility and picks up skills very quickly. She seems to be a bit overwhelmed around a lot of people, and will back off but we are desensitizing her to crowds and being touched by a lot of people. We are also working with her around children as she seems to be afraid of them, and she is responding very positively, taking treats and sitting for pets. I would not recommend her around small kids but older kids are just fine. She has become a group player with toys, frisbee, loves to tug and could also be a great flyball dog. She is very fast!! LOVES the water, she will swim in the pond all by herself there does not need to be a toy or another dog in there.she just seems to enjoy swimming!! Also seems to have a nose for tracking. I suspect she would excel in dock diving! She is just blooming and coming into her own, will make someone a great active friend !!!! update 1/17 Emma is still looking for her own family/home!! she is excelling in obedience and agility classes. She would do well in a home with another dog for companionship, and needs to be with an active family! she is doing fine with children but still recommend older children for Emma. Loves play with toys and frisbee, and while not overly affectionate will curl up next to you while watching tv. Dock diving is the bomb, she is doing well with that and loves to swim! Such a beauty and well mannered, we are sure there is someone out there looking for a great girl!!!! Emma is on the farm in Bradenton.
