Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Medium
DJ, short for Dollar Joe, is a 36-pound, male, heeler mix currently being fostered in Clearwater, FL (Pinellas County). He was named for the Dollar General store parking lot he was rescued from. Because he was living on the streets, we don't know his exact age, but based on his energy and activity level, we would estimate he's between 2 and 4 years old. During his stay with his foster family, his personality has continued to blossom. He is learning to walk confidently on a leash with a harness and will occasionally take a run at a nearby squirrel or rabbit. DJ is house trained but is not crate trained; he will sleep in his crate but doesn't like being locked in. He has a moderate-to-high level of energy, loves to run, jump and play indoors and out, and needs a home with a fenced-in yard for his zoomies. His foster parents make sure he gets 2-3 hours of walk and play time daily. His heeler tendencies come out during play, and he will jump up to grab your arm with his mouth when he's excited or trying to engage you. For that reason, DJ will do better in a home with adults or kids 8 years and older. DJ is dog-friendly, cats unknown. He enjoys playing with toys but would love a playful dog companion in his life. DJ is vaccinated, neutered and heartworm negative.
