Mabel is fostered in St. Pete, FL (Pinellas County. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families. Mabel is a loving, sweet, and overall well-behaved border collie and/or Aussie mixed with husky. She is a striking-looking dog, and somewhat socially awkward when playing with other dogs. She would be best with an older or mellow, laid-back dog as some dogs don't quite know how to read her. She also seems to do better with male dogs, though she has never started anything with another dog - she does not appreciate persistent, hyper dogs. She would also be very happy as an only dog in her forever home. She basically ignores unfamiliar dogs and is an independent girl. Mabel loves the beach, cuddling, car rides and going for walks. She does have a tendency to nip when playing, a trait of herders, and as such cannot go to a home with small children. Older kids who understand the behavior would be just fine. Mabel does have the escape tendencies of a typical husky mix, and as such should go to a home with a secure 6' or higher privacy fence, or a highly active home without a fence that will take her on all the engaging runs, hikes, car rides and swims she desires. This is absolutely not an off-leash or dog park dog-- a dog park fence will not contain her. Mabel knows basic commands like sit, her name, and paw. She loves to play with stuffed and soft toys. Mabel is crate trained, housebroken, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, microchipped and heartworm-free.
