*Tarly requires a home with a fully, physically fenced yard and no children under 7-8.* Tarly is fostered in Bradenton, FL (Manatee County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families! Tarly is a rambunctious, affectionate little corgi mix. Please research this breed before inquiring. He is currently 20 lbs and we are actively working on helping him gain. The vet estimates he is about 2 years old. He herds, chases and instigates. If he goes to a home with another dog, it needs to be one tolerant of or participating with his playful, puppylike nature. That said, we are not interested in sending him somewhere where another dog will be his only output, as it is obvious he lost out on a wealth of education at a young age. He would benefit greatly from a family that will work with him one-on-one, take him to classes and establish a bond. He likes kids, but as previously mentioned with his unwavering affection and herding tendencies he cannot go to a home with young children. He is fully housebroken and crate trained, and crate usage when unattended is a must for his adoptive home. He also loves playing tug, ball and frisbee, and brings toys back. In a perfect world he would get to learn sports like agility and flyball. Sadly due to a lack of proper handling in his early years, he is intolerant of nail trims and his family will need to commit to having this done regularly at a vet. Tarly is still gaining confidence around food and definitely needs to be fed completely separate from any other dogs so he does not revert back to his hesitation to eat. He sometimes prefers to be hand-fed. Tarly still needs some work on lead but does walk just fine on one - just without much mind for his handler, which we are working on. He is fully under control. Possibly due to a previous lack of regular exercise, him being marginally underweight, the summer heat, or just unfamiliarity with walking on lead, he will plop down after a mile or so of walking. His little legs have to work extra hard, so at this time we are recommending him only for a family with a fenced yard. Remember that this breed was developed for bursts of energy and tenacity herding cattle. For now the expectation of long walks to burn off all the energy he has is unrealistic. In the future he may become a favored occasional running or hiking partner! Tarly is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, microchipped and heartworm negative.
