Saavik is fostered in Bradenton, FL (Manatee County). We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for foster families.

Saavik is a wonder pup of about 6-7 months of age. She is now 32 lbs and still growing! We think she will be about 40-45 lbs fully grown. She is most likely a smooth coat border collie mixed with Ibizan hound. She is a wonderful, happy and goofy girl. Please read her bio before inquiring about her.

Saavik needs a home that will keep her busy, both physically and mentally. Running around a backyard or going for daily walks will not be enough for this dog. She needs to be learning, moving, thinking and working. We would like to see her go to a home with dog sports experience, though active homes without it will be considered. She would be happiest with another energetic dog to play with, but it is not a necessity so long as her adopter is committed to training with her every day. So far she has shown promise at disc (chases rollers and will bring them back halfway - working on the full retrieve). She also went to dock diving and nearly immediately picked up retrieving a toy from water. She likes water and is a good swimmer.

Saavik has been cat-tested and does tend to chase & herd them, so we would suggest no cats for her home. She would do best in a home with older kids, simply because of her build and energy. She requires a secure, fenced yard, ideally with a tall fence as she can already jump extremely high and once she is fully grown a standard chain link probably won't contain her. 

Saavik is finding her off switch and has begun enjoying naps on the couch and chewing quietly on an antler or playing independently with a toy. She rides well in a car and we are working on loose leash walking, which she is learning quickly. She is 98% housebroken and fully crate trained. She sleeps nicely and quietly in her crate on a bed at night. She is just a super smart, super goofy, happy girl.

Saavik is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up-to-date on vaccines and preventives.
