Einstein is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Einstein is currently fostered in Bradenton.

Einstein is a sweet and velcro cattle dog, 2 years old, 42 lbs and low- to medium-energy with minimal prey drive. He was saved from Hardee County Animal Control. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, microchipped and heartworm-negative. He does fine with other dogs and is quite playful with some of them, mostly females. He does not go after cats could be homed with them. He is friendly to kids too, though very young kids are a no-no (as they are with just about any herding breed). He is a happy-go-lucky, goofy guy.

Einstein loves women right off the bat, but is somewhat skeptical of men at first. There is no aggression in this; he is just shyer and tends to avoid men at first. He and his foster dad have great rapport, and he actually bonds quite well with men if given a day or two to figure it out. We feel he may have been mistreated by a man in the past. Einstein is the kind of dog that wants to romp in the yard, go for walks, go for car rides with you and lie by your feet in the evening. He is not the kind of dog that would ever run off, given the chance. He is a good listener and knows basic commands. He would be fine as an only dog - he is a people dog through-and-through. He sometimes nips for attention (typical behavior for a heeler), which we are working on correcting.

Einstein had ACL surgery two weeks ago to correct an old injury, and his prognosis is great. He just had a recheck and is cleared for moderate walks and backyard time. He has another recheck with his orthopedic surgeon in Sarasota in 6 weeks, after which he should be cleared for regular activity. If a prospective adopter is local and/or willing to transport him to this recheck appointment, he can go to his adoptive home now. Einstein is just a lovely guy looking for a second chance at a forever home.
